Skaters, Parents, Coaches, Officials and Friends of Skating
It is time to renew your membership for the 2011-2012 skating season. The new membership year begins July 1, 2011 and ends on June 30, 2012. All members wishing to renew their membership are required to complete a membership application and volunteer form. Parents with skaters under the age of 18 must sign the parent code of conduct.
The dues for an individual senior membership, junior/senior membership package, additional junior member, additional senior member, and the subsequent year introductory junior membership have increased. The 2011 Governing Council ratified the action of the U.S. Figure Skating Board of Directors to increase membership dues for the first family member and subsequent member effective July 1, 2011. The increase to the above membership levels reflects the increase by U.S. Figure Skating.
PLEASE BE AWARE OF SOME CHANGES THIS YEAR. MEMBERSHIPS MUST BE RENEWED BEFORE JULY 1, 2011. IF YOUR MEMBERSHIP IS RENEWED AFTER JUNE 30, 2011, YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY A $20.00 LATE FEE. MEMBERSHIPS RENEWED AFTER JUNE 30, 2011 ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR COMPETITOR FUNDING.
ALSO NEW THIS YEAR IS THE CLUB’S VOLUNTEER POLICY. ALL MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO FULFILL A VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT TO THE CLUB. THE VOLUNTEER POLICY IS ATTACHED TO THE MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION; PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THE VOLUNTEER POLICY. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU FAIL TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE VOLUNTEER POLICY, YOUR MEMBERSHIP WILL NOT BE IN GOOD STANDING. MEMBERSHIPS NOT IN GOOD STANDING ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE COMPETITOR FUNDING AND ARE FLAGGED WITH U.S. FIGURE SKATING. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT, PLEASE ASK ANY MEMBER OF THE BOARD.
Please complete one membership application per family, listing each member’s name (list the skater(s) first) as you want it listed by USFSA for testing, competitions and mailings. Please provide all information requested. Be sure we have a current and correct e-mail address for you, as e-mail is the primary way we communicate with our members. Your e-mail is used for club communications only and will not be distributed to third-parties.
If you have questions regarding your membership level please refer to the chart attached to the membership application. If you still have questions, check with your coach or the Membership Chair. The introductory junior membership is only available to beginning skaters who have never been a member of USFSA (other than a Basic Skills member ), have not taken any USFSA tests (other than Basic Skills), and will not be testing in the upcoming year. If you are currently an introductory junior member, you may remain an introductory junior member as long as you are not planning to test in the upcoming year. However, you must pay the subsequent year introductory junior member dues.
Memberships must be renewed by June 30, 2011 in order to have test and competition applications certified and signed by a club officer after July 1, 2011. Test applications or competition entry forms will not be signed by a club officer if your membership has not been renewed. Officials must renew memberships to continue to judge or officiate at competitions or test sessions after July 1, 2011. Members who have not renewed their membership by June 30, 2011 are not eligible for competitor funding.
The membership application, volunteer form and parent code of conduct (if applicable) must be completed and returned with your membership dues to renew or activate your membership. Incomplete or illegible forms or forms returned without payment cannot be processed and will delay submitting your membership to USFSA.
If you are transferring from another club, no transfer forms are necessary if you are joining RMFSC at the beginning of the membership year. Please indicate your previous club on the application form. If you are joining as an associate member, please include your home club on your application. Your home club membership must be current in order to be a RMFSC associate member.
Please notify the Membership Chair if your address or e-mail changes during the year so it can be updated on the club mailing list. Be sure to notify US Figure Skating of any address or e-mail changes as well. If you have any questions, you may contact me at membership@rmfsc.org.
Thank you and good luck in the 2011-2012 skating season!!

Membership FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. I’m new to US Figure Skating. How do I join the Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club (RMFSC)? Complete the RMFSC membership application, volunteer form, and Parent’s Code of Conduct (for parents with skaters under the age of 18). The membership forms are available on the Club’s website, in the skater’s locker room, or by contacting the club’s Membership Officer. Mail your completed forms, along with a check for the appropriate amount to Brenda Bowers, RMFSC Membership Officer, 6650 W. 98th Pl., Westminster, CO 80021. You may also drop the completed forms and payment in the lock box in the skater’s locker room at the ice rink.
2. Do I join the US Figure Skating when I join the RMFSC? Yes. When you join RMFSC you also get membership in US Figure Skating. You don’t have to join US Figure Skating separately. (Unless joining as an Associate member)
3. How long does my membership last? Membership is annual. The RMFSC and US Figure Skating membership year goes from July 1 to June 30 of each year.
4. I've forgotten my USFSA number. How can I get this information? If you supplied an e-mail address, you can log onto the US Figure Skating Members Only website at www.usfsaonline.org and look up your USFSA number. If you have never used the Members only site, you will be asked to select a password before you can access the site. The membership officer can also find your membership number. Contact: membership chair, click here to e-mail Brenda.
5. Are membership fees ever pro-rated? No. Neither US Figure Skating nor RMFSC offers prorated membership.
6. Is there a date by which renewal forms must be received by the RMFSC? All memberships must be current to test or compete in competitions. To maintain your membership in good standing, your membership must be renewed and all financial obligations to the Club must be met. Club officers will not sign test or competition forms if a member is not in good standing. In order for your membership to be renewed before July 1, your renewal must be received by the RMFSC Membership Officer by June 30. Renewing your membership before July 1 allows the member to be considered for RMFSC competitor funding disbursements. Memberships renewed after June 31 are not eligible to receive funding.
7. What if I want to change home clubs? Is there a form? There are no forms to fill out or sign if you change clubs at the beginning of the membership year. If you wish to change mid-year, you will need to complete a “Notice of Change of Home Club” form and complete the transferring member form. You can get forms from the Membership Officer or at www.rmfsc.org.
8. What do I enter for the US Figure Skating membership number if I’m new to figure skating and don’t have a number yet? Write “pending” in the form. If you are transferring from another club or are a basic skills member, fill in your current number, as your US Figure Skating membership number will remain the same from year to year. If you do not remember your US Figure Skating member number, it is critical that you specify your full name AND your date of birth.
9. What if the information is incorrect on my card, or if my contact information changes? What if I lose my card? If you have internet access, you can change and update your contact information on the US Figure Skating website yourself. Go to www.usfigureskating.org and log onto the Members Only site. You will need to request a login and password. You can also print out a temporary card yourself. Please contact the RMFSC Membership Chair if any of your information changes so that the Club’s records can be updated.
10. Is there any “fine print” having to do with membership? All applications are subject to acceptance by the Membership Committee of RMFSC
11. I am a basic skills skater, but do not plan to compete in the current membership year. Do I have to join a club? If you are not planning to compete or test during the membership year, you are not required to join a club. The Introductory Junior membership is a bridge membership that allows beginning skaters (under the age of 18) to test and skate in USFSA sanctioned competitions. Full membership in US Figure Skating is included along with a subscription to Skating magazine. Introductory junior members are not required to have a senior member join with them, do not have voting privileges and are not eligible to receive funding from the Club.
12. What is a Basic Skills membership? RMFSC does not offer a Basic Skills membership. The Basic Skills Program is the official US Figure Skating learn to skate program. Skaters enrolled in the Learn to Skate program at the Ice Centre at the Promenade become US Figure Skating Basic Skills members when they complete the annual registration form and pay the annual registration fee. This allows learn to skate skaters to compete in some basic skills competitions. When a skater is ready to take USFSA pre-preliminary tests or to participate in certain competitions, full USFSA membership is required. Your coach should let you know when you need to join RMFSC.
13. What is the Parent Code of Conduct? The Parent Code of Conduct has been recommended by Susa’s Parent Committee as an essential tool to aid in promoting a positive environment for skaters under 18 and for their parents. Any parent with a skater under the age of 18 must sign this form. Only one form is required per family. All USFSA members are encouraged to have a copy of the Parent Handbook, which can be accessed at www.usfigureskating.org/content/parent-conduct.pdf.
14. I have a question that has not been addressed by these FAQ’s. What do I do now? Contact the RMFSC Membership Chair. Click here to e-mail Brenda.

Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club Volunteer Policy Volunteer support is an essential part of our club, as our only source of revenue (other than a portion of the membership dues) is fundraising. Without the help and support of its members through volunteer hours contributed, it cannot perform its functions. To that end, beginning with the 2011/2012 membership year, RMFSC will be requiring a minimum of 10 volunteer hours per membership year for each skater. This requirement is subject to change in future years. The annual requirement will be recorded on the membership form each year. The Volunteer Policy will be part of the Membership Packet and must be signed by each skater (or skater's representative) in order to initiate or renew membership. With the implementation of this policy we are looking to support our skaters more than ever and, over time, expand the club activities and benefits. We are excited to offer numerous volunteer opportunities that can be fulfilled from home or the rink. This list of opportunities can be found on--?line or with your membership packet. Questions should be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator via email at: volunteers@rmfsc.org. Collegiate and Associate members are not expected to fulfill this requirement but your help is always appreciated! A tracking form will be included with your membership packet as well, and may be found on-line or in the locker room above the lock box. Members will be responsible for turning in their hours on a monthly basis. Hours will be tracked in 15 minute increments and must be verified by a committee chair or board member, prior to turning in the form. All volunteer hours must be performed by June 30th of the membership year. If you sign up to volunteer, we will do everything in our power to give you the hours you applied for. However, if you are not needed and/or do not work those hours for some reason, they will not count. If you do not fulfill your volunteer hours, you will be charged a flat fee of $300/year. If you do not pay the fee, you will not remain in good standing with the club and will be flagged as such with USFS. This will result in your ineligibility for competitor funding, testing, competitions etc. If volunteer hours are not fulfilled, the $300 fee will be due by June 30th of the membership year end. The fee will not be prorated for partial fulfillment of hours. Members are encouraged to help as much as possible and we appreciate you keeping track of all hours, even after the minimum requirement is met. This not only helps to spread the work load and make fun, successful events, but it helps us to anticipate hours needed in future years. We thank you in advance for your help and for being part of the team! Click here to download the RMFSC Volunteer Policy Form. |
