Welcome to the Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club

The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club is a volunteer-run 501(c)3 organization established in 1977 (at the old Hyland Hills Arena) as a member club of the United States Figure Skating Association. In 2002, U.S. Figure Skating recognized our club as a 25-year club.

The USFSA provides guidelines and rules for testing and competitions, which promote figure skating from the beginner level through Olympic competitors. RMFSC was established to provide its members with the benefits of having a home club at Ice Centre at the Promenade.

Our club members train and compete in all skating disciplines: Free skate, pairs, dance and synchronized team skating. Over the years we have had 12 national champions in free skate and our synchronized skating teams qualify to compete in the U.S. National Synchronized Skating Championships annually.

The Ice Centre at the Promenade (located at 10710 Westminster Blvd, Westminster, CO 80020) and the City of Westminster provide a superb venue for large competitions. To that end, our club has hosted the 2002 Southwestern Regional Qualifying Competition, 2002 Pacific Coast Synchronized Sectional Competition (both national championship qualifying competitions) and the 2001 U.S. Junior Championships. We also hosted the 2006 U.S. Junior Championships in December 2006. In October, 2007 we co-hosted the Southwestern Regional at the APEX Center in Arvada in association with Alpine FSC and Columbine FSC. These large competitions draw competitors from around the country and generate significant hospitality revenue into the community. These competitions are the primary source of revenue for our Competitors Fund.

Benefits of Joining RMFSC

There are several benefits associated with membership in RMFSC

Competitor Funding

RMFSC provides funding for competitors based on membership status. To receive funding, the skater must be a current home club member of the Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club and have been a member for the previous full membership year July 1 - June 30. Also, the skater and the skater's senior member (if applicable) must have renewed membership for the current membership year and that membership must not have lapsed. Skater's must be a "member in good standing" based on the skater's (or someone on behalf of the skater) contribution to the club by volunteering at competitions or other club activities, and owes no money to the club or its Synchronized Skating Teams.

Competitor funding levels are based on the funds available in the club's competitor's fund for the current year.

Funding levels for this year, to be announced:

Level 2009-2010
A
B
C
D

The competitor's funding policy is described in detail in the club constitution and bylaws.

Additional questions can be directed to the Club President.

King Soopers Grocery Certificates (Scrip)

(Scrip Chair - Amy West)

How does it work?

The RMFSC purchases King Soopers Gift Certificates from King Soopers at a 5% discount. RMFSC members or Associate members purchase gift certificates from the Scrip Chair at full face value (in $25 increments). The difference is then deposited into an individual account for the benefit of your individual skater(s). Once you have sufficient funds accumulated in your account, you may present the Scrip Chair with skating related statements or invoices and a request that those expenses be paid on your behalf. A check is then written and given to you to pay those expenses.

The catch?

There is a $10.00 per year accounting fee charged each account. This is for the cost of checks and accounting supplies. There is an additional $25.00 held in your individual account for the entire time your account is active. If at any time you want to stop buying gift certificates, that $25.00 will be returned to you. However, keeping that money in the account provides the Scrip Chair with funds to purchase certificates in advance.

King Soopers Scrip Gift Certificates Sales

Note from Amy West (SCRIP Chairperson)

I will be doing Scrip sales slightly different than before.  Hopefully this will work as there have been many instances where I come to the rink and don’t sell any scrip.  Of course, I have other weeks where many people buy.  I will still deliver on Tuesday afternoons about 4:15 (give or take a few minutes.)  I would like anyone who is in need of scrip to e-mail or text* me with your order prior to Tuesday (information is below.)  I will have it ready to go on the delivery day.  I will need to receive the orders by Monday evenings.

Please let me know if you need scrip on Tuesday, 9/7 as this will be the next delivery date.

Also, I will only send out an e-mail if I can’t be available on any given Tuesday.  This way I’m not bugging Ken each week to send out a message for me.  Thanks and let me know if you foresee any problems.

Contact Amy West for additional details or questions.

Synchronized Skating

The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club's Synchronized Skating program was established in 1987 and offers team skating for all ages. La Furia has sent at least two teams to the U.S. National Synchronized Team Skating championships every year. Tryouts are generally held in the spring of each year but often there is room for new skaters during the season. Synchronized Team Skating is the fastest growing discipline in the sport of figure skating and is working toward eventually becoming an Olympic event. There are also many collegiate opportunities across the country for synchronized skaters.

Mile High Figure Skating Association

The Mile High Figure Skating Association (MHFSA) is an "inter-club" association recognized by the USFSA. It is made up of the eleven Front Range figure skating clubs plus the Vail figure skating club. The Rocky Mountain Figure Skating Club was a charter member. Mile High was formed in 1985 largely to coordinate the efforts for the area clubs in hosting the 1988 U.S. National Figure Skating Championships. Today, Mile High serves as a coordinating body for major competitions. Competitions require lots of people and planning to put on. Mile High has a national reputation for running good competitions.

Mile High hosts two major competitions annually: Funstastics in April and Colorado Championships in August. Each year Mile High evaluates and may submit bids for USFSA Qualifying Competitions such as the Southwestern Region Championships or the U.S. Junior National Championships.

Every member club has two delegates on the Mile High board.
